**SHAH ALAM** – Following recent police investigations into a company exploiting children and using religion for its own gains, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has formed a task force to investigate allegations of deviant teachings in Islamic religious schools and learning centers.
The task force, headed by Jais director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, will be tasked with scrutinizing all such institutions, including those not registered with Jais. The state government has made it clear that it will take strict action against any institution found to be spreading deviant teachings, including revoking their licenses.
“The Selangor government is committed to ensuring the safety of tahfiz centres and religious schools from being used to exploit children and spread deviant teachings,” said Selangor Islamic Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.
The initiative comes on the heels of a police operation last Wednesday that rescued 402 children from 20 charity homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan linked to the suspected exploitative company.
Jais is urging the public to report any suspected instances of deviant teachings or exploitation in religious schools or tahfiz centers.
