**Kolkata:** Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s defensive vulnerabilities once again came to haunt them, as they conceded a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League’s opening match on Friday.
The Mariners started strong, taking an early lead through an own goal from Mumbai City defender Tiri in the 9th minute. Alberto Rodriguez, making his ISL debut, doubled the lead with a powerful strike in the 28th minute.
However, reminiscent of their Durand Cup final defeat to NorthEast United FC, Mohun Bagan struggled to maintain their advantage. Mumbai City mounted a strong comeback in the second half, equalizing through substitute Thaer Krouma in the 70th minute.
Mumbai continued to push, and in the 90th minute, Krouma scored again, finishing off a slick move to level the score at 2-2.
Mohun Bagan’s defensive woes were highlighted by the absence of key players like Rahul Bheke, Alberto Noguera, and Jorge Pereyra Diaz.
Despite the draw, Mumbai City, under the leadership of Petr Kratky, showcased their resilience and ability to fight back from behind. Mohun Bagan, on the other hand, will need to address their defensive frailties if they aim to challenge for the title this season.
