Fri Sep 13 13:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Burnt Human Remains Found in Vehicle, Family of Missing Man Grieves

**Freeport, Grand Bahama** – Police are investigating the discovery of burnt human remains found in a vehicle in a remote bushy area in East Grand Bahama on Thursday morning. This incident marks the sixth murder in Grand Bahama for 2024.

While the identity of the victim remains unknown, the family of Elkino Miller, a 49-year-old man reported missing since September 3, was seen grieving at the scene.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles reported that the body was burned beyond recognition, making it impossible to determine the gender or identity of the victim at this time. The discovery was made after an anonymous caller alerted authorities to a vehicle in the bushes off the Grand Bahama Highway.

Upon arrival, police found a charred right-hand drive Japanese vehicle deep in the bushes, its interior gutted by fire. Distraught relatives were heard screaming and crying loudly as police investigated the scene.

Scenes of crime officers, including the officer in charge of CID Superintendent Darrel Weir, along with a pathologist from the Rand Memorial Hospital, were present. ACP Knowles stated that police are speaking with families of recently reported missing persons, including Mr. Miller, to determine if the remains belong to any of them.

“We are in the early stages of investigations,” said Knowles. “We will be talking with family members of that young man and possibly other family members from missing persons recently to see what we can get to ID the remains that we have.”

DNA analysis will be required to identify the victim. Police are also seeking information about the anonymous caller who reported the discovery.

Anyone with information that can assist the investigation is asked to contact the police.
