Sat Sep 14 06:17:42 UTC 2024: ## Kejriwal Released From Jail After Supreme Court Grants Bail in Excise Policy Case
**New Delhi:** Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been released from Tihar Jail after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the CBI’s corruption case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. The court ruled that the arrest of Kejriwal by the CBI was not procedurally flawed but granted bail on the grounds of prolonged incarceration amounting to unjust deprivation of liberty.
Kejriwal, who spent nearly six months in custody, expressed gratitude to those who prayed for his release and vowed to continue fighting “anti-national forces working to weaken the country.” He will visit the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place today to thank God and seek his blessings.
The bail comes with certain conditions, including a surety bond of Rs 10 lakh, restrictions on making public comments about the case, and barring him from entering the CM office or Delhi secretariat.
The Supreme Court also raised questions about the timing of Kejriwal’s arrest by the CBI, suggesting it was done to “frustrate” bail granted in a related money laundering case. The Court stressed the CBI must dispel the notion of being a “caged parrot,” echoing its 2013 observation on the coal scam.
The AAP has hailed the verdict as a victory for truth and democracy, while the BJP has criticized the court’s decision, maintaining that Kejriwal remains an accused in the case.
Kejriwal’s release comes as a major boost for the AAP, particularly ahead of the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections where he is a key campaigner.
The bail order will also have significant implications for the political landscape in Delhi, where the AAP is preparing for the 2024 Assembly elections.
