**QUINCY, WA -** The Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is urging drivers to plan ahead and consider alternate routes due to ongoing construction on the Vantage Bridge. The project, which began in July and is expected to take three years, involves replacing the bridge deck with new precast concrete panels.

Construction is currently occurring 24/7 through November 1st, causing significant delays for eastbound drivers on Interstate 90, especially during peak travel times. The first Friday of 24/7 construction, September 6th, saw major backups exacerbated by a concert at the Gorge Amphitheater.

To alleviate some of the congestion, WSDOT is implementing a “Smart Work Zone” with dynamic messaging signs and speed limits. However, some of this technology experienced malfunctions on September 6th and is still being fully implemented.

With the summer travel season winding down, WSDOT anticipates fewer delays in the coming weeks. However, drivers are advised to be aware of potential challenges, as the bridge will not be fully open until spring 2025.

* **Blewett Pass:** Drivers can take State Route 28 through Wenatchee and Quincy, connecting to the freeway via State Route 281. This route passes through apple country, experiencing heavy harvest traffic in September and October.
* **Interstate 82:** Drivers can take Interstate 82 from Yakima through Tri-Cities, then Highway 395 to Ritzville.
