Sat Sep 14 02:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Alexandria Tigers Fall to Eastbrook in Heartbreaking Loss

**ALEXANDRIA, IN** – The Alexandria Tigers (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season on Friday night, falling to the Eastbrook Panthers (2-2) in a nail-biting 28-27 homecoming game. The contest came down to the wire, with Alexandria attempting a game-winning two-point conversion in the final seconds that fell just short.

Tigers quarterback Brady Gast connected with wide receiver Bryson Eckler for a 34-yard touchdown with only 30 seconds left on the clock, setting up the dramatic attempt. Head Coach Pete Gast opted to go for the win in regulation rather than risk overtime.

“Playing from the 10-yard line in overtime probably suits them more, being a run-oriented team,” Coach Gast explained. “We just wanted to win or lose it right there.”

Despite the valiant effort, Gast was unable to reach the endzone on the two-point conversion, and he sustained an injury on the play, leaving him on crutches after the game.

The Tigers’ offensive performance was hampered by costly penalties, including two unsportsmanlike conduct calls and numerous holding penalties. These infractions brought back big plays and ultimately cost Alexandria valuable yardage.

“We have to have that control and self-discipline,” Coach Gast stated. “We had holding calls bringing back big plays. We are going to have to work on that. These are things we can clean up and address.”

Eastbrook, on the other hand, utilized a high-tempo offensive attack that wore down the Tigers throughout the game. The Panthers’ 99-yard drive in the fourth quarter, culminating in a touchdown, gave them a 28-21 lead and proved to be the difference in the game.

Despite the loss, Alexandria showcased their offensive prowess early on, with Gast throwing three touchdowns in the first half, including an 87-yard touchdown pass to Eckler on the first play from scrimmage.

“That was huge. That was huge,” Coach Gast remarked. “A big play for sure.”

However, Eastbrook’s defense proved tough, forcing Gast to throw three interceptions in the second half, effectively silencing the Tigers’ offense until the final seconds.

The Tigers will look to rebound next week when they travel to Mississinewa (4-0) on Sept. 20. The Indians have yet to allow a point this season, making it a challenging test for the Alexandria squad.
