Thu Sep 12 01:37:33 UTC 2024: ## Labasa Woman Claims Inadequate Medical Response After Road Accident

**Labasa, Fiji -** A woman injured in a road accident in Labasa on Monday is criticizing the medical treatment she received. Aruna Devi, 55, claims that the response from healthcare providers was inadequate after the accident, which involved a shipping company bus and a sugarcane truck in Seaqaqa, Macuata.

Devi, who was traveling with her granddaughter, was one of five passengers injured in the collision. She alleges that the injured passengers were forced to wait for an extended period at the Seaqaqa Health Centre before receiving treatment, despite experiencing pain and bleeding.

“The nurse told us to wait for the doctor to arrive before we could be checked for treatment,” said Devi. “I was in severe pain, and blood was dripping from my mouth, but we had to wait for at least an hour.”

Devi was later transferred to the Nasea Health Centre, where she claims she was again asked to wait in line for treatment. “Common sense should have prevailed,” she stated. “They should have taken us to the emergency department immediately.”

Frustrated by the delays, Devi hired a taxi and went to the Labasa Divisional Hospital, where she received treatment for cuts to her mouth.

Efforts to contact the Divisional Medical Officer Northern for comment were unsuccessful.

Devi, a frequent ferry traveler, said this was her first accident and commended the shipping company and its driver, stating it was not their fault. Following the accident, she booked an air flight to Suva, saying she will now prefer flying over taking the ferry.

Divisional Police Commander (DPC) North, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kemueli Baledrokadroka, confirmed receiving a report of the accident on Monday.
