Thu Sep 12 00:16:00 UTC 2024: ## Two Indian Athletes Set to Compete at Diamond League Finale
**Brussels, Belgium** – India’s track and field stars, Neeraj Chopra and Avinash Sable, will make history this weekend by competing in the Diamond League Final, the prestigious culmination of the track and field season. The two-day event, taking place in Brussels, Belgium, will see 32 disciplines contested across September 13th and 14th.
Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic champion and world record holder in men’s javelin throw, will participate in his third consecutive Diamond League Final. He secured his spot by finishing fourth in the overall standings, despite competing in only two events this year. He earned a second-place finish in Doha with a throw of 88.36m, and another second-place finish in Lausanne with a season best throw of 89.49m.
Avinash Sable, meanwhile, will be making his debut at the Diamond League Final. He qualified for the event after securing the 14th spot in the overall standings for men’s 3000m steeplechase. He earned points at the Paris and Silesia meets, and capitalized on the non-participation of several top-ranked athletes to secure a place in the final twelve.
“This is a proud moment for Indian athletics,” said an official from the Athletics Federation of India. “Having two athletes compete at the Diamond League Finale highlights the progress of Indian track and field.”
Neeraj Chopra’s javelin throw is scheduled for Saturday, September 14th at 1:52 PM IST, while Avinash Sable’s steeplechase will take place on Friday night (Saturday midnight IST) at 12:39 AM. Both events will be held at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme stadium in Brussels.
