Thu Sep 12 14:39:00 UTC 2024: ## Food Manufacturer Fined £150,000 for Ignoring Safety Concerns

**Wembley, UK** – Oriental Delight, a food manufacturer based in Wembley Park, has been fined a hefty £150,000 for repeatedly failing to address safety concerns with its machinery. The company was found guilty of three breaches of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 4th.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) identified three machines with damaged safety devices and missing safety guards during a routine inspection in October 2022. This marked the third time the company had been issued prohibition notices for similar issues, with previous warnings in 2016 and 2019.

HSE inspectors expressed disappointment that Oriental Delight had “effectively ignored” previous warnings by continuing to operate the unsafe machinery.

HSE inspector Marcus Pope emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “This case sends out a clear message to the food manufacturing industry that HSE will not hesitate to prosecute when inspectors find serious health and safety failings, particularly when previous enforcement and advice has been provided.”

The fine and court order serve as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing worker safety and complying with regulations in the food manufacturing sector. Pope stressed the need for employers to “properly assess and apply effective control measures to minimize the risk from dangerous parts of machinery.”
