Chennai, India – India’s captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli have landed in Chennai ahead of the first Test match against Bangladesh, marking the beginning of a crucial series for both teams.
The two-match Test series, which kicks off on September 19th in Chennai, will be India’s first under newly appointed Head Coach Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff. The series will be a key test for Rohit’s team as they face a Bangladesh side riding high after a 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan.
Rohit Sharma arrived in Chennai late Thursday evening, while Kohli arrived early Friday morning after a direct flight from London. Both players are eager to return to the longer format of the game after their successful T20 World Cup campaign, which saw India lift their second title.
With the focus now solely on the 50-over and 5-day formats, the senior duo will be looking to guide India to their third consecutive World Test Championship final. India currently sits atop the WTC standings but will be aiming to maintain their strong performance.
The series will also see the return of key players Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant, who arrived in Chennai together.
The second Test match will be played in Kanpur from September 27th, followed by a three-match T20I series.
