Nashville, TN – Grammy-winning rock star Jon Bon Jovi acted quickly to save a woman from a potential suicide attempt on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge Tuesday night. The incident occurred while Bon Jovi was filming a music video for his song “The People’s House” on the bridge, which remained open to the public during the shoot.
Police video footage, initially posted on YouTube before being removed, shows the woman standing on the ledge, holding onto the railing. Bon Jovi, along with a video production assistant, noticed the woman’s distress and initiated a conversation with her. After a tense exchange, Bon Jovi calmly approached the woman and helped her back over the railing to safety.
Following the rescue, the musician embraced the woman in a comforting hug and left the bridge with her a few minutes later.
Metro Nashville Police Department praised Bon Jovi and his team for their quick action. “A shout out to Jon Bon Jovi and his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, Tuesday night,” the department stated on social media. “Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety. It takes all of us to help keep each other safe.”
Chief John Drake echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in keeping each other safe.
Bon Jovi, known for his philanthropic work through the JBJ Soul Foundation, has experience interacting with individuals in difficult situations. The foundation focuses on addressing issues like hunger and homelessness.
A representative for Bon Jovi confirmed that the singer will not be commenting on the incident.
The Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, which spans the Cumberland River between downtown Nashville and the Nissan Stadium, has a history of being a place for those in need. It was named after legendary Tennessee editor John Seigenthaler, who prevented a man from jumping off the bridge in the 1950s.
