Thu Sep 12 16:16:00 UTC 2024: ## Vietnam War Crew to Reunite at Fairmont Memorial for Book Signing

**FAIRMONT, WV** – The crew of the Huey helicopter known as “Super Slick” during the Vietnam War will reunite at the Marion County Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Fairmont on September 15th for a book signing event. The helicopter, which is now a centerpiece of the memorial, served as the crew’s “home” during their seven-month tour of duty in the war.

The event, which will take place from 1-3 p.m. at East Marion Park, will feature author and crew chief Thomas Feigel signing copies of his new book, “Super Slick: Life and Death in a Huey Helicopter in Vietnam”. Feigel and his crew members, including Capt. John Leandro, Randy Olson, Dana Brown, Tom Wilkes, Rob Sandwith, and Ray Smith, will be on hand to meet with the public and share their stories.

“Parts of this book were very personal and very emotional to write,” said Feigel, a Purple Heart recipient. “My crew and I rode our ship into battle every night, engaged in many fire fights and experienced the unthinkable. We were together for only seven months, but the bonds formed in battle are everlasting.”

The book, named after the helicopter’s call sign, provides a firsthand account of the crew’s experiences during the war, including their close calls and the camaraderie they formed. All proceeds from the book sale will be donated to the Towers to Tunnels Foundation, an organization dedicated to ending veteran homelessness.

The reunion is a special moment for the crew, who have made a tradition of visiting the “Super Slick” in Fairmont over the years. Marion County Commissioner Linda Longstreth said, “It’s amazing that he, his crewmates and the helicopter all made it out of Vietnam. We’ll get to see history pieced back together when they meet again Sept. 15.”

The book signing will take place at the Marion County Vietnam Veterans Memorial in East Marion Park. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to the nearby Marion County Convention and Visitors Center.

Feigel and the crew will also be signing books at Barnes and Noble at University Town Center in Morgantown on Saturday, September 14th from 1-3 p.m.
