Fri Sep 13 09:47:03 UTC 2024: ## Indian Paralympian Navdeep Singh Meets PM Modi After Paris Gold Win
New Delhi: Navdeep Singh, India’s newest Paralympic gold medalist, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, receiving congratulations for his impressive performance in the men’s javelin F41 at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
PM Modi lightheartedly teased Singh for his emotional outburst during the final, which saw him initially secure a silver medal before being upgraded to gold after the disqualification of Iranian athlete Sadegh Beit Sayah for displaying a controversial flag.
Singh, who had practiced rigorously for five years in Delhi, admitted to getting carried away with the aggression during the competition, attributing it to the intensity of the training. He also expressed surprise at his final throw of 47.32 meters, exceeding his usual training distance of 42 meters.
“I was fully prepared before the final,” Singh shared, emphasizing his focus on the task at hand. “Coach was happy with my throw, so I was also happy. I didn’t expect the distance which I threw in the final, but it all went good.”
The athlete expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s support and emphasized his desire to raise awareness about the capabilities of Paralympians.
“We also exist in this world and nobody should make fun of us,” Singh stated, highlighting the challenges he faced. “We also can make our country proud.”
This gold medal marks a significant achievement for Singh, who plans to take a well-deserved break after six months of intense training before setting his sights on future endeavors.
