Thu Sep 12 15:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Century-Old Watford Garage Remembered

Watford’s rich history continues to be unveiled, this time with the remembrance of Findell’s Garage, a fixture on Cecil Street for over a century. The Watford Observer, in collaboration with Watford Museum, is taking a look back at businesses that have disappeared or relocated from the town.

Volunteer archivist Christine Orchard at Watford Museum shared insights into the garage’s history. Records indicate that a motor-related business has operated at 96 or 98 Cecil Street since at least 1929, initially under the name Redrup’s Garage. The site even briefly housed a temporary Salvation Army Citadel. By the mid-1950s, the business was still known as Redrup’s Garage but eventually transitioned into Findell’s Garage by the mid-1960s.

While the exact closure date of Findell’s Garage is unknown, the museum has a photograph from the 1980s showcasing the garage at 96-98 Cecil Street. Notably, motor services continue at this location even today.
