Thu Sep 12 23:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Boavista in Goalkeeping Crisis After Double Injury Blow
**Porto, Portugal:** Boavista FC is facing a major goalkeeping crisis after both their first-choice and backup keepers suffered serious knee injuries in the same training session. João Goncalves, who played all 34 games last season, and Luis Pires, both ruptured their anterior cruciate ligaments and will undergo surgery, sidelining them for an extended period.
This leaves the Portuguese side with only 17-year-old Tome Sousa as their only fit goalkeeper. Sousa, a product of Boavista’s youth academy, has two caps with the Portugal under-18 team but has never played for the senior team.
The young keeper could make his debut on Monday in an away match against Estrela da Amadora, followed by a daunting clash against Portuguese giants Benfica the following week.
Boavista, currently in 13th place in the Primeira Liga standings, will be hoping that Sousa can rise to the occasion and fill the void left by the injured duo.
