Conor McGregor has ignited the internet with footage of his first sparring session since his June fight with Michael Chandler was postponed due to a broken toe. The clips, showing a sharp and focused McGregor landing powerful strikes and defending takedowns, have fueled speculation about the much-anticipated matchup.
Despite UFC president Dana White’s insistence that McGregor won’t return until 2025, both fighters and fans are pushing for the clash to be rebooked in January. Venues in Las Vegas and California are being considered.
Fans were overwhelmingly impressed by McGregor’s form in the clips, praising his speed, power, and technical skill. The Irishman’s return to the Octagon is highly anticipated, as he has not fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
McGregor has two fights remaining on his current UFC contract, after which he has expressed interest in exploring bare-knuckle boxing. As co-owner of BKFC, he sees himself as a “player-manager” in the burgeoning sport.
While the official date for the Chandler fight remains uncertain, the recent sparring footage has certainly rekindled the excitement surrounding McGregor’s return to mixed martial arts.
