**Thiruvananthapuram:** CPM leader EP Jayarajan, who had vowed to never travel by Indigo airlines again after an incident involving the airline and its employees, has broken his oath to attend the funeral of CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury.

Jayarajan had previously boycotted Indigo flights after a clash with Youth Congress activists at Thiruvananthapuram airport in June 2022. The incident led to Indigo imposing a travel ban on Jayarajan and two Youth Congress activists.

“I had vowed to never travel by Indigo again. I felt that my oath was bigger than anything else. But, attending Sitaram Yechury’s funeral was a priority. There are many airlines that offer better service than Indigo. I decided to travel by Indigo to attend the funeral as a mark of respect to Sitaram Yechury,” Jayarajan said.

Yechury passed away on Thursday in Delhi after a prolonged illness. Jayarajan travelled to Delhi by Indigo flight from Karipur Airport on Thursday night.

Jayarajan’s decision to break his oath has been met with mixed reactions. Some have praised him for putting aside his personal vendetta to attend the funeral of a party leader. Others have criticized him for his inconsistency.

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between political parties and airlines over security and passenger behavior at airports.
