Fri Sep 13 03:35:31 UTC 2024: ## Supreme Court to Decide on Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail in Liquor Scam Case
**New Delhi, Sept. 13:** The Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict on Friday on the bail petition of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged liquor policy scam. Kejriwal has also filed a separate plea challenging his arrest and subsequent remand by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A two-judge bench, headed by Justice Surya Kant, will pronounce its judgment at 10.30 a.m. The court reserved its decision last week after hearing arguments from both the CBI and Kejriwal’s legal team.
Kejriwal’s lawyers argue that the CBI arrested him without justification, considering he has been under investigation for two years. They maintain that Kejriwal, as a constitutional functionary, fulfills the requirements for bail, as he poses no flight risk and will cooperate with the investigation.
The CBI, however, claims that Kejriwal’s release could jeopardize the investigation and cause witnesses to become hostile. They also argue that his bail petition should be remanded back to the trial court.
The apex court’s decision is highly anticipated, as it follows the recent granting of bail to other prominent figures implicated in the liquor policy case, including Manish Sisodia, K. Kavitha, and Vijay Nair.
The CBI maintains that Kejriwal’s arrest was necessary due to his influential position and his alleged role in directing the party’s policies. They argue that his release could hinder the investigation and potentially influence witnesses.
The Supreme Court’s decision will have significant ramifications for both the ongoing investigation and the political landscape in Delhi.
