**MANILA, PHILIPPINES** – The rape complaint filed by actor Sandro Muhlach against two independent television contractors, Jojo Nones and Richard Cruz, has been submitted for resolution, according to lawyer Maggie Garduque, who represents the two accused. Muhlach had filed the complaint with the Department of Justice (DOJ) in August, alleging rape through sexual assault and acts of lasciviousness.
During the preliminary investigation on Thursday, Muhlach, Nones, and Cruz all personally attended, marking the first time the three had met since the alleged incident. The meeting was reportedly emotional, with Muhlach reportedly crying after the session.
Nones and Cruz, escorted to a separate room after the meeting, denied the allegations through a counter-affidavit submitted to the DOJ. They requested the dismissal of the complaint, arguing that the allegations lack documentary evidence. Garduque also stated that Muhlach tested negative for drugs, contradicting claims that he was drugged.
Meanwhile, GMA Network, where Muhlach is an actor, has suspended the contracts of Nones and Cruz while conducting its own investigation into Muhlach’s formal complaint filed with their human resources department. Senior Vice President for Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide, and Support Group, Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, emphasized that GMA does not condone sexual abuse.
The DOJ will now review the case and determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a formal trial. Nones and Cruz maintain their innocence and have appealed to the public not to judge them prematurely.
