Thu Sep 12 01:37:52 UTC 2024: ## Rockies Crushed by Tigers, Suffer Another Blowout Loss

**DETROIT, MI** – The Colorado Rockies suffered another lopsided defeat on Wednesday, falling to the Detroit Tigers 7-4. The loss marks the second in a row for the struggling Rockies, who are on pace for a 102-loss season.

The Tigers wasted no time jumping on rookie pitcher Tanner Gordon, who was recalled from Triple-A to replace Austin Gomber on paternity leave. Detroit plated six runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Trey Sweeney. “The back-breaker, for me, was the Sweeney home run,” said Rockies manager Bud Black.

The Rockies did manage to show some life, with Ryan McMahon hitting his 19th home run and Ezequiel Tovar contributing a two-run double. Tovar’s 43 doubles on the season are the third-most in Major League Baseball and set a franchise record for a Rockies shortstop.

Despite the offensive sparks, the Rockies were unable to overcome the early deficit. Gordon struggled, giving up seven runs in just 3 1/3 innings. The bullpen did provide some relief, blanking the Tigers for four innings.

The Tigers, who have been on a hot streak since August 11th, continue to bolster their playoff hopes. They are currently vying for a wild card spot.

The Rockies will look to avoid a sweep on Thursday as they face the Tigers once again. Ryan Feltner will take the mound for Colorado, while the Tigers counter with Cy Young candidate Tarik Skubal.

The Rockies return home this weekend to face the Chicago Cubs. Antonio Senzatela, who is returning from Tommy John surgery, could make his first start of the season on Saturday.
