Thu Sep 12 08:52:00 UTC 2024: ## Sigourney Savages Fall to North Mahaska Warhawks in Thrilling Five-Set Match

**NEW SHARON, IA** – The South Iowa Cedar League opened its season with a thrilling match between the Sigourney Savages and the North Mahaska Warhawks on Tuesday evening. The match, which lived up to the hype, saw the Savages take the first two sets before the Warhawks rallied to win the next three, including a decisive 15-2 fifth set.

Sigourney came out strong, taking the first set 25-20 thanks to strong serving from Josephine Moore, Hannah Hanselman, and Taylor Rozenboom, and powerful kills from Hanselman and Bailey Gretter. They followed that with another strong set, winning 25-21, with Moore, McKinley Chittick, and Gretter leading the offensive charge.

The Warhawks, however, fought back in the third set, taking it 25-15. North Mahaska’s front line, led by Nataliya Linder, Sydney Anderson, Regan Grewe, Brecken Shilling, and Jocelyn Pinkerton, dominated the net, turning the tide of the match. The Warhawks continued their momentum into the fourth set, winning 25-17 to force a fifth and deciding set.

In the fifth set, the Warhawks were dominant, taking an early 11-1 lead behind strong service runs from Kayla Readshaw and Anderson. Linder’s powerful kills and a block helped seal the victory for North Mahaska.

“We were playing so well in the first two sets,” said Sigourney Coach Sierra Davis. “Then, things fell apart. We lost our groove, we seemed to let up and we lost our aggressive play. Those are things we must improve. It is a long season and we will go back to work.”

The Savages will look to bounce back on Tuesday as they host PCM in a non-conference matchup. The Warhawks will continue their conference play with a match at BGM on Monday.
