Thu Sep 12 00:17:11 UTC 2024: ## Former B.C. Conservative Candidate Sues Party, Alleges Defamation and Breach of Contract

Kelowna lawyer and farmer Alexandra Wright has filed a lawsuit against the B.C. Conservatives, alleging defamation and breach of contract after being ousted as the party’s candidate for Kelowna—Mission. Wright claims she was dismissed due to her criticism of Sandher Fruit Packers, a company that hosted an event for Conservative Leader John Rustad. The party, however, maintains that she was removed for failing to perform her duties as a candidate.

Wright alleges the party made defamatory statements about her performance, which could harm her business and future job prospects. She also claims the party discriminated against her and made fraudulent statements regarding her dismissal.

The lawsuit stems from an incident in August where Wright alleges she was offered $20,000 to switch ridings to make room for entrepreneur Gavin Dew. She is seeking over $800,000 in damages and wants the Conservatives to remove all negative posts about her performance.

The party’s executive director Angelo Isidorou dismissed the lawsuit as “frivolous and vexatious.”

Wright, who had considered running as an Independent, is now supporting former B.C. United candidate Ashley Ramsay in the upcoming election. She has expressed frustration with the current political climate, stating that the other parties seem more focused on mudslinging than offering solutions to voters.
