Thu Sep 12 15:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Upstate New Yorkers Offer Mixed Reactions to First Trump-Harris Debate

**SCHENECTADY, NY -** The first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, watched by an estimated 65 million viewers, left upstate New Yorkers with a variety of reactions.

While some viewers, like Nancy Keane of Gloversville, found Trump to be on top form, especially on the issue of immigration, others, like Jonathan Aoston Charles of Albany, remained undecided. Charles, still split between Harris and Trump, plans to watch the entire debate in hopes of gaining clarity.

Susan Spring of Rotterdam found the debate entertaining, but noted that Trump often appeared defensive and tired. She was thankful that President Biden had been replaced on the ticket, highlighting her desire for a new Democratic candidate.

Denise Dickson of Gloversville felt the ABC moderators showed bias against Trump, and while she acknowledged Trump’s strengths on the economy and immigration, she was unsure of either candidate’s ability to effectively convey their message. As of Wednesday, she would only vote in down-ballot races.

The debate, though contentious and full of heated exchanges, sparked conversation and reflection across the Capital Region, highlighting the diverse perspectives and political sentiments of upstate New Yorkers as the election draws near.
