**MORIGAON, Sept 11:** The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has appointed Tiwa community leader and educationist Ramesh Chandra Bardoloi as the new Morigaon District Congress president. The appointment, announced in an APCC order dated September 10, 2024, follows the conclusion of former president Shravan Kumar Dekarja’s tenure.
Bardoloi, a prominent figure in the Tiwa community, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has served as the former chief executive member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council, president of the Provincial Congress Tribal Cell, and coordinator of the Tiwa Autonomous Council Region.
The Congress has expressed confidence in Bardoloi’s leadership and stated that they will actively oppose the BJP under his guidance in upcoming elections. The party aims to challenge the BJP’s dominance in the district, where the saffron party currently holds two assembly constituencies, Morigaon and Jagiroad, while the Congress holds Laharighat.
With Bardoloi at the helm, the Congress is looking to regain lost ground in the district and strengthen its position ahead of the crucial panchayat, autonomous council, and assembly elections.
