**Grand Island, NE** – Marilyn Belle (Sweet) Dexter, a longtime resident of Clarks, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, at the CountryHouse Residence in Grand Island at the age of 96.
Known for her love, her unwavering dedication to family, and her remarkable skill in sewing and quilting, Dexter will be deeply missed by her loved ones. She was born in Clarks on August 24, 1928, to Frank and Veda Sweet, and graduated from Clarks High School in 1947.
Dexter married her high school sweetheart, Bill E. Dexter, on April 11, 1947, and the couple raised their family on a farm near Clarks. She was active in the community, serving on the Clarks High School Board and attending numerous sporting events. Her most recognized trait, however, was her ability to sew anything, from underclothes to wedding dresses. She was particularly known for her beautiful quilts, each crafted with love and a specific purpose for her family.
Dexter is survived by her six children: Renae Schmid, Ronda Kinsey, Randy Dexter, Robin Hathorne, Ryan Dexter, and Royce Dexter, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Miriam Truesdell and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the same location. Burial will follow the service at Bureau Cemetery near Pierce Chapel Church in Clarks.
