Fri Sep 13 12:47:34 UTC 2024: ## West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Offers to Resign Over Junior Doctors’ Strike

**KOLKATA, SEPTEMBER 12:** The ongoing impasse between the West Bengal government and junior doctors continued on Thursday, with no breakthrough in talks. The doctors refused to attend a meeting with the government, citing its refusal to meet their demands.

Frustrated by the stalemate, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced her willingness to resign for the sake of the people. After waiting for over two hours for the doctors to arrive for the discussion, Banerjee addressed the media.

“I do not value my position. I am ready to resign for the people. However, I urge that the medical services, which have been paralyzed for a month due to the junior doctors’ strike, resume and normalcy be restored,” she stated.

Banerjee explained the government’s stance on the doctors’ demands, stating, “It is against the law to discuss court matters in the public domain. Therefore, we refused their demand for live telecast of the discussions. However, we have arranged three cameras to record the proceedings.”

She expressed her commitment to resolving the issue, saying, “I have done everything possible to find a solution. I want justice for the victim. However, I apologize to the people who have been suffering for these days due to my failure to bring the doctors to the discussion table. There are some people who are preventing the junior doctors from coming to the talks.”

The junior doctors rejected Banerjee’s statement, calling her resignation offer “highly unsatisfactory” and emphasizing that their objective was not to force a resignation.

“We are still hopeful that the issue will be resolved through dialogue,” the doctors said. They confirmed their readiness to participate in discussions regardless of the location.
