**By Matt Labash**
Last night’s debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris was a resounding victory for the Democratic vice presidential nominee, with analysts and polls alike declaring it a humiliating defeat for the incumbent President.
Harris, who initially appeared shaky, gained confidence as the debate progressed, while Trump grew increasingly rattled and defensive, even resorting to personal attacks and unsubstantiated claims.
“Trump was beaten like the village piñata,” writes Labash, a political commentator for Slack Tide. “And that’s not my anti-Trump bias talking.”
Post-debate polls overwhelmingly favor Harris. A YouGov poll showed her winning 54-31 percent among registered voters who watched the debate, while CNN’s poll had her winning 63-37 percent. These numbers, Labash points out, represent a “true bloodbath,” larger than any other post-debate poll conducted since 1984.
The article highlights numerous instances of Trump’s bizarre behavior during the debate, including his baseless accusations of Harris’s “Marxist” beliefs, his repeated attempts to deflect blame for the January 6th Capitol riot, and his insistence on winning the 2020 election despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Labash also points out Trump’s tendency to deflect criticism by making false claims, such as his assertion that he doesn’t have any regrets about January 6th, or his outrageous claim that Harris is attempting to have him killed.
“All good things come to an end. Bad things, too,” writes Labash. “And however and whenever the Trump Era ends, of one thing we can be certain: it likely won’t end with a bang, but it will most definitely end with lots of whining.”
Despite the devastating defeat, Trump has already begun his characteristic spin campaign, claiming victory based on cherry-picked polls and launching attacks against his opponents. This, Labash argues, is only the beginning of the inevitable whining and denial that will follow.
