Thu Sep 12 09:07:00 UTC 2024: ## Korea and Nepal Celebrate 50 Years of Friendship with Cultural Extravaganza

**Kathmandu, Nepal** – The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nepal Office hosted a two-day cultural event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Nepal. The event, held at the KOICA ICT Center at the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk Campus, showcased the deep bond between the two nations through engaging activities and exhibitions.

The event, themed around “prosperity, happiness and humanity”, highlighted KOICA’s development cooperation in Nepal. Visitors were treated to a glimpse of Korean culture through a K Culture booth featuring traditional games, calligraphy, and K-pop, as well as the K-Food Zone and Eco-Booth.

On the opening day, dignitaries including the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Tae-young Park, Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA), Bharat Mani Subedi, and representatives from Korean Associations, government officials, and KOICA partners attended.

Country Director of KOICA Nepal Office, Mooheon Kong, expressed gratitude for the support from the Nepali government and partners in advancing KOICA’s mission. Under Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (North East Asia Division), Mani Ratna Sharma, highlighted the Korean government’s cooperation and support to Nepal, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening relations.

Ambassador Park spoke of mutual cooperation programs that will further enhance the strong ties between Korea and Nepal, taking their bilateral relationship to new heights.

Over 400 people, including government officials, KOICA partners, and members of the public, visited the photo exhibition over the two days.

Since 1974, Nepal and the Republic of Korea have shared a strong partnership. Their collaboration in areas such as the economy, infrastructure, development, and employment has seen steady growth, with significant contributions from the Korean government through KOICA initiatives. This enduring partnership reflects the commitment of both nations to strengthening their bond.

The Korean Government has contributed a remarkable USD 200,010,000 (Two Hundred Million and Ten Thousand US Dollars) through KOICA from 1991 to 2023, showcasing their dedication to supporting Nepal’s development. The cultural event serves as a testament to the long-standing friendship between the two nations and a promising sign for continued collaboration in the years to come.
