**DUNCAN, BC** – The Cowichan Tribes, through their development arm KDLLP, celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for their “Rivers Edge” housing project on September 12th, 2024. The project, located on Cowichan Tribes reserve land at 222 Cowichan Way, will feature a mixed-use building with 200 apartment suites, including 30% below-market rent units.
The project aims to provide affordable and high-quality living solutions for families, couples, retirees, and young professionals. “Rivers Edge” will also include commercial space and a café on the ground floor.
The design prioritizes community living, with dedicated green spaces, a play area, outdoor kitchen, and community gardens. The project also features an underground parkade, maximizing available space for outdoor amenities.
“This major housing development will transform the lives of the residents who will live here,” stated Cowichan Tribes Chief Sulsulxumaat Cindy Daniels, highlighting the need for housing within the community.
Renée Olson, Interim CEO of KDLLP, emphasized the collaborative effort involved in bringing “Rivers Edge” to fruition, thanking partners including the Province of BC, the Federal Government, and Cowichan Tribes Contractors.
