**New Delhi, September 12:** In a significant move to address the healthcare needs of India’s aging population, the government has announced an expansion of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) health insurance scheme. Effective immediately, senior citizens aged 70 and above are now eligible for coverage under the scheme.

Previously focused on the economically disadvantaged, AB-PMJAY now covers an additional 6 crore individuals from 4.5 crore families. This extension aims to alleviate the financial burden of rising healthcare costs for elderly individuals, particularly those in nuclear families.

Each eligible senior citizen will receive a new health card, enabling them to access the scheme’s benefits. However, it’s important to note that the INR 5 lakh coverage is shared within families, meaning it will be divided among all eligible seniors.

2. Enter your mobile number and captcha code.
3. Click “Generate OTP” and verify the OTP.
