Thu Sep 12 00:37:00 UTC 2024: ## Local Hero Rescues Woman After Car Crash into Florida Pond
**Cape Coral, FL** – Michael Gordon, a resident of northeast Cape Coral, became an unlikely hero Monday night when he jumped into a pond to rescue an elderly woman whose car had crashed into the water.
Gordon, a former high school swim team member, didn’t hesitate to dive into the murky pond despite the presence of alligator warning signs. “By the time I got out to her, the trunk was just about completely underwater,” Gordon told local news station WBBH. “I saw a bunch of bubbles come up where the car was, and that was the deciding factor.”
He reached the woman just as she surfaced and helped her to safety. “She just popped up just as I was getting to her, and then I grabbed her,” Gordon said. “She’s definitely older; she needed assistance.”
Neighbors reported that by the time fire and emergency crews arrived, the car was fully submerged. Gordon, along with firefighters, attempted to rescue the woman’s dog, which was trapped inside the car, but unfortunately, the dog did not survive.
The woman is recovering in the hospital and is said to be doing much better. Her family expressed gratitude to Gordon and first responders for their quick action.
Cape Coral police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
