Fri Sep 13 01:55:54 UTC 2024: ## Australia Clinches First T20 Against England in Southampton Thriller

**Southampton, England:** Australia secured a convincing 28-run victory over England in the first T20 international at Southampton on Wednesday, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Travis Head was the star of the show for Australia, smashing 59 runs off just 23 balls, laying the foundation for a seemingly below-par total of 179. England’s bowlers, however, struggled to contain the Aussie onslaught, especially Head who hit eight fours and four sixes in his whirlwind innings.

The hosts’ chase was then derailed by the spin duo of Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood. Zampa, who took 2-20, and Hazlewood (2-32) proved too much for England, who eventually succumbed for 151.

England, missing their injured captain Jos Buttler, were further hampered by a shaky start, losing their first four wickets within eight overs. While Liam Livingstone attempted to revive the chase with a 37-run knock, Australia’s bowlers held firm, limiting England’s scoring opportunities.

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh praised the efforts of his team, highlighting Head’s “exciting” start and the experience of Zampa and Hazlewood. Marsh also expressed concern about the injury to fast bowler Xavier Bartlett, who left the field early due to a thigh strain.

The second T20 match is set for Friday at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens, where England will look to even the series.
