Singer-songwriter Halsey turned heads at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, channeling none other than Elizabeth Hurley in a stunning vintage Versace dress. The figure-hugging, red leopard-print gown, originally designed by Gianni Versace for Hurley in 1996, made a triumphant return to the red carpet after 28 years.
Halsey, who uses she/they pronouns, explained the dress was a “miracle to find” and expressed excitement about wearing such a historic piece of fashion. The dress was last worn by Hurley at the grand opening of the Versace Boutique in New York City in 1996.
Halsey completed their vintage-inspired look with bright red hair, a matching lip, and minimal makeup. The singer is set to perform a new song, “Ego,” from their upcoming album “The Great Impersonator” at the awards ceremony. The “Closer” singer expressed excitement about the live debut of the track, describing it as “indicative” of their “most authentic self as an artist.”
This year marks Halsey’s first VMA performance since 2016. The singer, who recently revealed a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, expressed her enthusiasm for taking the stage at the packed venue.
