Fri Sep 13 02:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh to Review Power Deal with Adani Group, Raising Concerns Over Pricing

**Dhaka, Bangladesh:** The interim government of Bangladesh, led by Muhammad Yunus, is set to review existing power supply agreements with Indian companies, including the Adani Group. The review is focused on the terms of the deal signed in 2017, which allows the Adani Group to export power from its Jharkhand unit to Bangladesh. The government plans to assess whether the price paid by Bangladesh for the power is justifiable.

A senior official from the interim government told the Indian Express that there will be scrutiny of Indian businesses, raising questions about the payment structure. This comes after the Financial Times reported that Adani has warned the Bangladeshi government about overdue payments exceeding $500 million. The company has characterized the backlog as “unsustainable”, adding further urgency to the situation.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has responded, emphasizing that this is a “buyer-seller” agreement between an Indian private company and the Bangladesh government. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “It’s a private project, and both parties need to sit together and resolve any issues if they arise.”

This review is part of a broader initiative by the interim government to scrutinize its business engagements with Indian companies, aiming to ensure transparency and fairness in all dealings.
