Thu Sep 12 23:55:48 UTC 2024: ## Trump’s Georgia Election Interference Case: Two Charges Dropped

**Atlanta, Georgia** – Former President Donald Trump has been dealt a setback in his ongoing Georgia election interference case, with two charges being dismissed by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee. The charges, related to filing false documents and conspiring to file false documents, were connected to a coordinated effort by Trump and his allies to submit false certificates claiming Trump won the 2020 election in Georgia.

Judge McAfee ruled that the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office did not have the authority to prosecute the federal offenses in state court. This ruling leaves Trump facing eight of the original thirteen charges he was indicted on last year.

The case has been stalled for several months, with a hearing scheduled for December in the Georgia Court of Appeals regarding defense attorneys’ request for a review of Judge McAfee’s decision to allow Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to continue prosecuting the case. The hearing is scheduled to take place just a few weeks before the November 5th presidential election, where Trump is running against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Despite the dismissed charges, the case remains a major legal challenge for Trump. Four other defendants have already entered guilty plea agreements with prosecutors, agreeing to cooperate as state witnesses in exchange for avoiding jail time.

This development comes as the 2024 election season heats up and continues to be a major focal point for Trump’s legal battles, which have also included an indictment for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results in Washington D.C.
