Thu Sep 12 13:50:57 UTC 2024: ## MGM Resorts Partners with Escape Solar to Power Up Renewable Energy Goals

**Las Vegas, Nevada** – MGM Resorts International is taking another leap forward in its commitment to sustainable practices with a new partnership with Escape Solar LLC. This agreement will significantly increase the company’s access to clean solar energy, bringing them closer to their goal of sourcing 100% renewable electricity across North America by 2030.

The partnership involves a 25-year power purchase agreement for a 115-megawatt (MW) solar plant with a 100 MW/400 MWh battery storage system, located in Lincoln County, Nevada. Once operational in early 2026, this facility will generate enough renewable energy to power over 28,000 average U.S. homes annually.

This project builds upon MGM Resorts’ existing efforts, which include the largest direct connect solar array in the hospitality sector, currently powering 90% of the daytime energy needs of 11 Las Vegas Strip properties. The new agreement with Escape Solar will ensure 100% of the daytime energy needs of those properties are met, with the battery storage extending that power into the late afternoon and evening.

“This agreement is the next step toward the achievement of our climate goals,” stated Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President at MGM Resorts. “We are dedicated to finding new ways to reduce our carbon footprint, conserve resources and inspire others to join in building a more sustainable world for generations to come.”

MGM Resorts has been making significant strides in its sustainability initiatives, achieving a 45% decrease in emissions per square foot by 2025 and a targeted 50% reduction by 2030. This new project with Escape Solar is expected to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 250,000 metric tons annually.

“Estuary is delighted to contribute to MGM Resorts’ industry-leading renewable energy objectives,” said Jill Daniel, CEO of Estuary Power, the company managing the Escape Solar + Storage project. “Escape will generate substantial economic benefits for Lincoln County, Nevada, creating over 250 well-paying construction jobs.”

This partnership signifies another step in MGM Resorts’ commitment to leading the hospitality industry in addressing climate change with transparency, accountability, and science-based actions.
