**Harrisonburg, VA** – The James Madison Dukes baseball team, fresh off a successful 2024 season that saw them reach the NCAA Regional, is looking to build on their momentum and make a return trip to the postseason in 2025. Despite losing key players to graduation and the MLB Draft, the Dukes are confident in their returning core and a new wave of talent.
“Last year was a great accomplishment, but that’s over now,” said infielder Coleman Calabrese. “Our new expectation is to get back there and go farther this year.”
The Dukes are led by veteran players Calabrese, outfielder Ryan Dooley, infielder Wyatt Peifer, and pitcher Max Kuhle, all of whom have significant experience. The team is embracing a culture of accountability, with players pushing each other to maintain the high standards set in previous years.
Head coach Marlin Ikenberry has been impressed with the development of his players throughout the summer, noting the standout performances of catcher Jack Cannizzaro and outfielder Ike Schmidly in the Valley Baseball League.
“Trying to put pieces of the puzzle together starts today,” said Ikenberry, who is focused on evaluating his roster and determining a starting lineup for the upcoming season. “We’re just excited to see what we can do in 2025.”
With a nearly finalized schedule for the 2025 season, the Dukes are laser-focused on building upon their recent success and making a run for the College World Series. The fall practice schedule is underway, and the team is embracing the challenge of exceeding expectations once again.
