Fri Sep 13 16:57:18 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Released from Tihar Jail After Supreme Court Grants Bail in Excise Policy Case
**New Delhi, September 13, 2024:** Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a corruption case related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
Mr. Kejriwal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 26th and has been in custody since then. The Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail comes after a lengthy legal battle, with the court finding that his prolonged incarceration constituted “an unjust deprivation of liberty.”
The court imposed certain conditions on Mr. Kejriwal’s bail, including a ban on visiting his office or the Delhi Secretariat and refraining from making public comments on the merits of the case.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was met with a resounding welcome by his party leaders and supporters upon his release. In his first remarks, Mr. Kejriwal vowed to continue fighting “anti-national forces” working to weaken the nation, asserting that his time in prison had only strengthened his resolve.
The Supreme Court’s decision has been met with mixed reactions. The AAP celebrated the decision, seeing it as a victory for truth and justice. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the decision, stating that Mr. Kejriwal should resign from his position as Chief Minister.
The release of Mr. Kejriwal is expected to boost the morale of the AAP and allow him to campaign in regional elections in Haryana and Delhi.
The case, which has been closely watched, is likely to continue as the CBI investigation is ongoing.
