Palm Springs, CA – Chad McQueen, actor and son of legendary Hollywood star Steve McQueen, has passed away at the age of 63. His family announced his death on Wednesday, revealing that he died at his ranch in Palm Springs, California.
McQueen’s family described him as a loving father and dedicated husband, highlighting his passion for racing as a tribute to his father’s legacy. He passed on his love for the sport to his children, Chase and Madison, who will continue to honor both his and his grandfather’s legacies.
According to friend Arthur Barens, McQueen’s death was caused by organ failure stemming from a fall in 2020 from which he never fully recovered.
Born in Los Angeles in 1960, McQueen grew up in Malibu. He followed in his father’s footsteps, appearing in several films, most notably as “Dutch” in the popular “Karate Kid” franchise. He later produced two documentaries about his famous father: “I Am Steve McQueen” and “Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans.”
McQueen also forged his own career in auto racing, establishing McQueen Racing and competing in the prestigious 24-hour Le Mans race. A near-fatal crash during a practice session at Daytona International Speedway forced him to retire from racing in 2006, but he remained deeply involved in the sport.
His son, Steven McQueen, has also carried on the family’s acting tradition, appearing in notable shows such as “The Vampire Diaries.”
The McQueen family is requesting privacy during this difficult time as they celebrate the life of Chad McQueen.
