Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has joined the growing chorus of voices encouraging voter turnout in the 2024 presidential election, citing her “amazing platform” as motivation.
Clark, who recently “liked” Taylor Swift’s Instagram post endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, emphasized the importance of registering to vote and educating oneself about the candidates and their policies.
“I think for myself, I have my amazing platform, so I think the biggest thing will be just encourage people to register to vote,” Clark said. “It’s the second time I can vote in a [presidential] election; at 22, I could vote when I was 18.”
While Clark did not endorse Harris herself, she clearly resonated with Swift’s message of encouraging voter participation.
“That’s the same thing Taylor did,” Clark said. “And I think continue to educate yourself with the candidates that we have, the policies that they’re supporting.”
Clark’s stance mirrors that of other WNBA players, including Liberty star Breanna Stewart, who expressed support for Harris during the Summer Olympics. Stewart stressed the importance of staying united and ensuring people are informed about the voting process.
“The things she stands for, we also stand for,” Stewart said. “So we’re making sure that we can stay united and continue to push the message of registering to vote, knowing where to vote and all the resources behind it.”
With the 2024 presidential election approaching, athletes like Clark and Stewart are using their platforms to encourage their fans to get involved in the democratic process.
