Thu Sep 12 09:05:56 UTC 2024: ## Ghana Forced to Play AFCON Qualifiers Away After Stadium Rejections

**Kumasi, Ghana** – The Black Stars of Ghana are facing a major hurdle in their 2025 AFCON qualification campaign after the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) rejected their Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for the remaining home qualifiers.

The CAF inspection team deemed the stadium unfit for competitive matches due to serious structural deficiencies, including inadequate drainage, uneven playing surface, and patchy grass cover.

With other Ghanaian venues like the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadiums also failing to meet CAF standards, Ghana is now scrambling to secure an approved stadium for their crucial Matchday three and four ties in October.

CAF has mandated Ghana to find an alternative venue outside the country, with the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria emerging as the most likely option due to its proximity. The stadium, with a capacity of 30,000, currently serves as the home ground for the Super Eagles.

Other stadiums under consideration include Côte d’Ivoire’s Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Stade de la Paix, Cameroon’s Japoma Stadium in Douala, and the Berkane Municipal Stadium in Morocco. The Ghana Football Association is expected to announce their final decision soon.
