**Basel, Switzerland** – The city of Basel has approved a budget of CHF35 million to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025. The decision was made by the cantonal parliament with an overwhelming majority, 87 votes in favor, 4 against, and 4 abstentions.
The total budget, including expected income of CHF 2.5 million from the Arena Plus venue, amounts to CHF 37.5 million. The government will cover the remaining CHF 35 million.
The funds will be used for various aspects of hosting the event, including infrastructure, security, medical services, transportation, accommodation, welcome activities, and supporting events.
The small EDU party has already announced their intention to launch a referendum against the spending authorization. The government council anticipates a potential vote on November 24.
