Fri Sep 13 14:37:31 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Released on Bail in Corruption Case

**New Delhi, India** – Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a corruption case related to the city’s liquor policy. Kejriwal had been in custody since March, when he was arrested by India’s financial crime-fighting agency, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and later by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The Supreme Court, in its order, stated that while the arrest of Kejriwal was lawful, his continued detention due to the CBI case was unjustified. Justice Bhuyan, one of the judges presiding over the case, said that the CBI’s arrest of Kejriwal just before his release on interim bail in the ED case raised questions about the agency’s motives.

Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have consistently maintained that the charges against him are politically motivated. The AAP celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision, with party leaders and supporters hailing it as a victory for truth.

Despite the bail, the Supreme Court has imposed conditions on Kejriwal, prohibiting him from visiting the Chief Minister’s office and Delhi Secretariat. The court has also directed him to refrain from making any public comments on the merits of the case.

While the BJP, the ruling party at the national level, has criticized Kejriwal, calling him “outright dishonest,” the Congress party has interpreted the Supreme Court’s decision as a victory for democracy, underscoring the strength of India’s judicial system.

Kejriwal’s release comes as a significant development in Indian politics, with his party, the AAP, gaining popularity across the country. The case has fueled political tensions, with the AAP accusing the BJP of using the judiciary to target their leader.

This case will continue to be closely watched as the legal proceedings unfold, with the outcome likely to have a significant impact on Indian politics.
