Fri Sep 13 10:57:15 UTC 2024: ## Kejriwal Released From Jail After Supreme Court Grants Bail in Liquor Scam Case
**New Delhi, India** – Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar jail on Friday after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a corruption case related to the city’s liquor policy. Kejriwal had been in custody for nearly six months, facing allegations of irregularities in the policy.
The Supreme Court’s decision came despite a July 12 order granting Kejriwal interim bail in a related case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). However, he remained incarcerated due to an arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) just days before the SC order, in a separate graft case linked to the same liquor policy.
The AAP leader and his party have consistently denied all allegations, claiming the cases are politically motivated.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan of the Supreme Court criticized the CBI’s timing of Kejriwal’s arrest, stating the agency’s actions seemed aimed at frustrating the release granted in the ED case. The court emphasized that the CBI cannot justify the arrest and continued detention of Kejriwal, reprimanding the agency for failing to act independently.
Following the bail order, Kejriwal was released from jail, with the court imposing conditions that he cannot visit the Chief Minister’s office or the Delhi Secretariat.
Kejriwal’s release sparked celebrations among his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters, who hailed it as a victory for truth. However, BJP leaders criticized the decision, accusing Kejriwal of dishonesty and calling for his resignation.
The case will continue to be investigated, with both the ED and CBI continuing their probes into the allegations.
