Tue Sep 10 17:11:34 UTC 2024: ## Microsoft Releases August 2024 Security Update for Windows 10 and Server 20H2

**REDMOND, WASHINGTON** – Microsoft has released its monthly security update for August 2024, addressing vulnerabilities in Windows 10 versions 20H2, 21H2, and 22H2, as well as Windows Server 20H2. The update, distributed under KB5043064, bumps the build numbers to 19044.4894 and 19045.4894, and is available for download from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

The update primarily focuses on security patches, but also brings back a few known issues:

* **Profile Picture Change Issue:** Users may encounter an error (code 0x80070520) when attempting to change their user account profile picture. Microsoft is working on a resolution.
* **Linux Dual-Boot Issues:** Devices with a dual-boot setup for Windows and Linux may face difficulties booting Linux after installing the update. This is due to the update applying Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) settings to prevent vulnerable boot managers. A workaround is available on the Windows release health site.

It’s important to note that Windows 10 versions 20H2 and 1909 have reached the end of servicing, along with non-LTSC editions of 21H2.

Users are advised to download and install the August 2024 security update to ensure their systems are protected against potential vulnerabilities.
