**San Mateo, CA** – Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, a beefed-up version of its popular gaming console, promising significant graphics and gameplay enhancements. The new console boasts a 67% more powerful GPU than the standard PS5, 28% faster memory, and advanced ray tracing capabilities for ultra-realistic lighting effects.

The PS5 Pro also features upscaling technology using artificial intelligence to create even more detailed images, as well as Game Boost for optimized performance of over 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games. The console supports Wi-Fi 7, VRR, and 8K gaming.

CNET editor Scott Stein, who had the opportunity to try out the PS5 Pro, praised its enhanced graphics but questioned its value for many gamers. While the improvements are noticeable, he’s unsure if the price increase will justify the upgrade for those already owning a PS5.

“It’s a big, graphically boosted piece of hardware that can keep up with ever-changing PCs, and in some ways maybe exceed them,” Stein said. “It’s all about making big TV gaming a happier experience.”

The PS5 Pro will be available for pre-order starting September 26th, with a retail price of $700. It launches on November 7th, coming with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense controller, and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom. A disc-less version will also be available, requiring users to purchase games digitally.

Sony’s move to introduce the PS5 Pro comes as it acknowledges the console is entering the latter stage of its life cycle. While the company remains tight-lipped about its future plans, rumors suggest they’ll focus on enticing existing PS5 owners to upgrade, rather than aggressively lowering prices.

A key selling point for the PS5 Pro is its extensive backward compatibility. This feature, already present on the standard PS5, allows players to access a vast library of PS4 games. Sony’s continued focus on backwards compatibility indicates a strategy to build a strong foundation for the PlayStation ecosystem, potentially influencing its future console designs.
