Tue Sep 10 17:02:00 UTC 2024: ## SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn Rocket Lights Up Lancaster County Skies

Lancaster County residents were treated to a spectacular sight early Tuesday morning as SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn rocket, launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, streaked across the sky. Numerous sightings were reported in Lititz, Upper Leacock, and Manheim townships around 5:30 a.m., with many describing the rocket as a bright light with a wide white tail.

The Polaris Dawn mission, led by billionaire entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, is a five-day journey that will see the four-person crew perform the first-ever private spacewalk. The flight is expected to reach a record-breaking altitude of 870 miles, surpassing all manned space missions since NASA’s Apollo program, with only astronauts who have flown to the moon venturing further.

The crew, which includes two SpaceX engineers and a former Air Force Thunderbirds pilot, is expected to land off the Florida coast after their mission.

This launch marks another significant milestone in private space exploration, demonstrating the growing capabilities of companies like SpaceX in pushing the boundaries of space travel.
