**Julaana, Haryana:** Renowned wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Wednesday filed her nomination papers as the Congress candidate for the Julaana assembly seat in Haryana. Accompanied by Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda and other senior party leaders, Phogat expressed her enthusiasm for entering the political arena.
“It’s a very joyous occasion for me to take this step,” Phogat said. “I’ve learned in wrestling that you should never underestimate your opponents, and we’re working hard. We have the blessings of Satpal Ji, and I hope to receive even more love and blessings from the people here than he did.”
Phogat’s campaign will focus on seeking the support of the people, especially those who have been loyal to former wrestler Satpal Singh who previously held the Julaana seat.
Her opponent in the election is BJP’s Captain Yogesh Bairagi. The wrestler-turned-politician held a roadshow earlier in the day before filing her nomination.
Phogat joined the Congress party on September 6, along with fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia. The Haryana assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, with results announced on October 8.
Congress leader Deepender Hooda expressed confidence in the party’s victory, claiming that the Congress will form the government in Haryana under the leadership of Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Both Bhupinder and Deepender Hooda performed religious rituals before filing their nominations.
