Thu Sep 12 03:36:45 UTC 2024: ## Rahul Gandhi Meets US Officials Amidst BJP Criticism

Washington DC: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s three-day visit to the US has sparked controversy, with the BJP accusing him of working against India’s interests. During his visit, Gandhi met with Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, as well as several US lawmakers.

The US State Department confirmed the meeting with Lu, stating it was part of their “regular diplomatic engagement with our partners.” Gandhi also met with members of the India Caucus, discussing “shared commitment to building a progressive future and strengthening Indo-US relations.”

However, the BJP, through its IT Cell head Amit Malviya and spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, criticized Gandhi’s meeting with US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who they described as an “anti-India voice” and a “radical Islamist.” They alleged that Gandhi’s engagement with Omar demonstrated the Congress party’s open opposition to India.

Gandhi, for his part, has not provided any details about the discussions or released any video footage of the meetings. He has focused his trip on engaging with the Indian diaspora, students, and US lawmakers.

The incident highlights the growing political tension between the Congress and the BJP, with the opposition party facing accusations of undermining India’s interests on the international stage.
