**Taipei, Taiwan** – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s leading chipmaker, has reported strong sales for August, driven by continued demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips. Revenue for the month reached NT$250.87 billion ($7.8 billion), representing a 33% year-over-year increase.
This strong performance is attributed to the growing demand for AI chips, which TSMC supplies to major players like Nvidia and Apple. TSMC’s CFO, Wendell Huang, highlighted the “strong demand for our industry-leading 3nm and 5nm technologies” as a key driver of the company’s success in the second quarter.
Looking ahead, TSMC anticipates further growth in the third quarter, with CEO C.C. Wei noting that AI is “so hot” right now. The company expects smartphone and AI-related demand to continue driving business, with revenue projected to reach between $22.4 billion and $23.2 billion.
TSMC’s progress on its first US factory in Phoenix, Arizona, has also been positive. The facility is reportedly achieving similar yield rates as comparable factories in Taiwan, a promising sign amidst earlier concerns about labor shortages and investor expectations for US profitability.
Analysts are predicting that TSMC’s third-quarter revenue will grow by approximately 37% from the previous year. The company is expected to report its full earnings results on October 17th.
Overall, TSMC’s robust performance reflects the burgeoning global demand for AI chips, further solidifying the company’s position as a key player in the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
